Prodex Total 16 Inch Insulation combines the benefits of a reflective insulation (R-15.67), radiant barrier and vapor barrier. That means you'll have a cool, dry structure in summer and a warm, dry structure in winter. It is used as a stand-alone or supplemental insulation. It is used as a stand-alone or supplemental insulation. Applications include pole barns, attics, garages, roofs, basements, crawlspaces, radiant floor heating, air ducts, under concrete and more. It is ICC-ES Recognized, ENERGY STAR qualified and is eligible for the 2011 Tax Credit. It reflects 97% of radiant heat (the primary source of heat flow). Prodex works well in HOT and COLD climates. Other benefits of Prodex include sound deadening and easy installation. Reflective aluminum foil on each side of a 5mm closed-cell polyethylene foam center. Questions?
A pole barn or metal building insulation system requires a reflective insulation, radiant barrier and vapor barrier. The metal skin causes sweating (condensation), unbearable heat in summer and frigid temperatures in winter. Prodex serves a true vapor barrier and condensation eliminator. It has a high r-value and it's the number one performing radiant heat barrier. It is superior to fiberglass batt in metal buildings and pole barns because it is unaffected by humidity or water -- It doesn't mildew or promote fungus growth and it adds a radiant barrier to keep the building cool in the summer -- It doesn't promote nesting for rodents, bugs and birds. It is also much easier and less expensive to install. It is superior to double bubble insulation in metal buildings because the heat of the metal skin doesn't cause its polyethylene micro-bubbles to collapse.

Reflective insulation is the most effective when airspace exists between the insulation and the adjacent material. The R value of the system will vary dependent on the airspace size and the direction of the heat flow, and the conductive and convective properties of surrounding materials. We are not able to expand on the Characteristics, Values or Regulations shown in above chart. All pertinent technical information available is posted above. Please consult your local code official if concerned with an approval.
Because heat rises, you'll have more winter heat loss through your roof than through your walls; therefore, it's more important having a higher R-value in the roof than walls. The radiant barrier component of Prodex addresses summer heat gain. Heat gain is higher in the attic because the sun is beating down on it all day (it's not uncommon to have summer daytime temperatures in an attic cavity that exceed 140 to 150 degrees F).
