In cold climates, Prodex  (R-value 15.57) building insulation's main function is reducing heat flow out of the building through the roof and the walls.

 

In hot climates, Prodex (Emissivity = 0.03) prevents 97% of radiant heat transfer (primary source of heat-flow). The lower the "E" the greatest an insulations ability to keep out radiant heat.

The following building insulation products are all used to reduce heating costs: Fiberglass, Cellulose, Rock-wool, Rigid board and Prodex Building Insulation. Only one: Prodex, prevents radiant heat transfer (The primary source of heat-flow in and out of your structure). Without a radiant barrier, when the roof gets very hot (as in summer), it radiates solar-generated heat down into any supplemental insulation and your building. A complete building insulation system will include a product that prevents radiant heat transfer. If you select cellulose, fiberglass, rigid board or rockwool insulation as your building insulation material, you're looking to primarily reduce heat transfer by trapping warm air. These insulations have a high radiant heat transfer rate and are very good radiator of this absorbed and retained heat. As surfaces radiate infrared rays in all directions, the heat trapped in these building insulations during the day will radiate down into the air-conditioned space at night even if the night cools down. This means you will have to run the air-conditioning system even at night wasting energy. Using Prodex building insulation will prevent this problem. Prodex in the building will block up to 97 percent of this heat from reaching any other insulation and the air-conditioned space below.
