2 Problems With Foam Insulation Board | Alternative

Insulation Foam Board Problems

1. Rigid Insulation Is Rigid!

Because foam board insulation isn't flexible, it does a poor job filling the gaps and cracks that exist in walls. As a result, air passes though these areas.

Air traveling in an out will bring moisture with it. This can lead to a multitude of problems such as mold, mildew and rot.

Prodex Total is flexible and it bends to fit any space requirement

2. Rigid Foam Insulation Does Not Prevent Radiant Heat Transfer

Radiant heat transfer is the primary source of heat-flow. Each unit of radiant heat energy that is reflected away from your home or building in the summer, and each unit that is reflected back during the winter, means less operation of your heating and air-conditioning system - Less wear and tear on your equipment - Less money you pay in utility costs.

Prodex Total reflects 97% of the radiant energy (primary source of heat-flow) that strikes it.

Insulation Foam Boards Don't Work On Uneven Walls

Basement walls often have contours where a 4x8 foam board won't fill the gap. This allows moisture to seep in.

Excess moisture can cause mold, mildew, odors, decay, fungus growth and wood rot. Due to the underground environment, moisture is the primary consideration in developing a basement wall insulation strategy.

The underground environment of walls below grade presents unique challenges that insulation boards don't meet. The walls of a basement are exposed to the surrounding soil, which will contain water. The moisture content in soil below three feet deep is almost always higher than the moisture content of the air inside. This difference in vapor pressure causes moisture to be driven from the soil into the basement or crawlspace interior by diffusion through the wall. A significant amount of moisture from the soil below the slab will wick upward into the basement through the slab.

Unlike foam board insulation, Prodex Total is flexible (a roll insulation), it will adjust to the slight contours of your walls, filling the crack and gaps - A true vapor barrier.
